You, as owner and General Manager of your franchise, draft your team starting in 1950 and must develop your prospects in your minor leagues, nurture your veterans on the major league roster, set your rotation and lineup, make blockbuster trades, and much more, all in hopes of developing your dynasty. Three times a day our custom designed Artificial Baseball Engine (affectionately named ABE) simulates the games and compiles complete box scores, play-by-play, and year-to-date statistics. How the Game is Played When you first sign up, you will select a city and a team nickname (such as the St. Louis Birds). The city you select has no effect on your team other than determining whether it will be in the National League or American League. (Both leagues play by the same rules, i.e. there is no designated hitter in either league.) 24-48 hours after your league is full (has 16 owners , or game players like you), the Initial Draft will be held. While you are waiting for your Initial Draft, you can preview the players available and rank them in the order you want to draft them. Once your draft is complete, you can organize your team via the Depth Chart to move players between the Majors or Minors; use the Lineups and Rotation/Bullpen to decide which players start, the batting order and what position they play; propose Trades with other owners; set up your coaching priorities in the Minor Leagues, or waive players; or scout the Waiver Wire to add players to your team. You can also adjust your Manager Preferences for how you want your team to play. Starting the morning after your Initial Draft, games will start playing. Three games will play each day, several hours apart; this allows you to adjust your strategies or lineups between games. You can view the results of each game by accessing the game's Box Score from the Scoreboard or the Schedule pages; you can choose to view the game a play at a time or simply view the entire box score at once. After each game, you can adjust your lineups and Manager Preferences. It's also a good idea to view your next opponent's last game to see how they play and adjust your strategies and lineups to beat them. The next morning, the next three-game series against your next opponent will start. The season for free Trial leagues will progress through an 81-game regular season, a tiebreaker game if necessary, followed by a best-of-seven League Championship Series (played in one real-life day) and a best-of-seven World Series (played in one real-life day). So one full season will take about one real-life month to play. At the end of the season, an Offseason will occur, causing older players to decline in skills or retire, and younger players to improve in skills. The next day, an Amateur Draft will be held to replace retiring players. Each trial league will progress through three 81-game seasons before it ends. Paid subscription leagues are also available, which play full 162-game seasons and continue indefinitely. Some paid leagues have been running for hundreds of simulated seasons! In addition, some leagues (known as Speed leagues) play more than 3 games per day. Why the 1950s Baseball, hot dogs, and apple pie. It can be argued that the 1950s were when baseball was at its greatest. It was a time before free agency, before modern expansion, and before owners held cities hostage in seeking tax-funded stadiums. It was a time when all that mattered was what happened on the playing field, where baseball players spent most of their careers with one team, and where fans everywhere knew the starting lineups of even their staunchest rivals in the 16-team major leagues. It was a time when the game was more pure, and we have captured that here at SimDynasty.com. It should be noted that, while SD begins in the 1950s, it's really a melding of the game as it has evolved during the past 60 years, with its heart in the fifties but with some parts, such as five-man rotations and bullpen usage, coming from later eras. The fifties are the basis of the game, but as we all know, baseball is not static and has evolved, and Sim Dynasty attempts to embrace some of those changes while holding true to the core elements of the game as it appeared in the fifties. How Sim Dynasty Is Different From the 1950s Sim Dynasty is modeled after the 1950s in regard to General Manager activities and Free Agency. Many of the in-game features more closely resemble how baseball...
